An aggressive branch of the Alekhine Defense Modern Variation where White answers the pin with 6. d5, gaining space but loosening support of e5.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Vitolins Attack
The Vitolins Attack arises in the 4...Bg4 line after 5. c4 Nb6, when White plays 6. d5 rather than the standard 6. exd6. The advance gains space and cramps Black's queenside pieces. The cost is that the e5-pawn no longer has pawn support, and the knight on f3 remains pinned. As a result, the d5–e5 chain becomes a target for ...dxe5 and further pressure against the center.
