Tongue-in-cheek line of Anderssen's Opening in which White pushes six pawns one square each while Black builds a classical center and castles.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Hippopotamus Attack
The Hippopotamus Attack, also called the Hippopotamus Attack Formation, is less a variation than a joke formation: after 1. a3 e5 White continues 2. b3, 3. c3, 4. d3, 5. e3, 6. f3 and 7. g3, advancing every pawn from the a- to the g-file a single square. Black meanwhile develops naturally with d5, Nf6, Nc6, Bd6 and O-O. The pawn chain takes away the knights' best squares and loosens White's king against a kingside pawn storm. Its main practical use is that a careless opponent can find the barricade awkward to break down.
