About the Siegener Gambit

The Siegener Gambit is an offbeat way for White to meet From's Gambit. Instead of taking on e5, White plays 2. d4 and lets Black capture. After 2...exd4 3. Nf3 c5, Black defends the extra pawn on d4. White then strikes at it with 4. c3, aiming to break up Black's center and use the half-open d- and e-files. Black is a pawn ahead and has the move.
