The Four Pawns Gambit extends the Wing Gambit, 3. b4, also called the McDonnell Gambit, by adding f4 to the offer. After 3...Bxb4 4. f4 exf4 5. Nf3 Be7 6. d4 Bh4+ 7. g3 fxg3 8. O-O gxh2+ 9. Kh1, White is four pawns down. In return White has a pawn center on d4 and e4, a lead in development, and open files on the kingside aimed at Black's king.
