Train it in TheoriaAbout the Pratt Variation
The Pratt Variation arises from the Philidor Variation, 2...Bc5 3. c3 Nf6, when White pushes 4. d4 exd4 5. e5 and Black counterattacks with 5...d5 instead of moving the knight. After 6. exf6 dxc4, Black has won the bishop for the knight and is a pawn up, with doubled c-pawns. White's f6 pawn eyes g7, and 7. Qh5 attacks the c5 bishop. Black answers by castling, 7...O-O, which leaves an unbalanced and tactical position.
