Sharp Lemberger Countergambit line in which White recaptures with 4. Nxe4 and lets the d4-pawn go, playing for development and an initiative.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Lange Gambit
The Lange Gambit, 4. Nxe4, wins back the e4-pawn at once but leaves d4 unprotected, so White gives up a pawn after all. The usual reply is 4...exd4. The most testing answer is 4...Qxd4, which centralizes the queen and invites an exchange. White then continues 5. Qe2 or 5. Bd3 and relies on faster development for compensation of uncertain value. The engine rates the position as roughly balanced, and Black scores slightly better in online play.
