A Blackmar-Diemer Gambit sideline in which White plays 4. Be3 instead of 4. f3, developing first and leaving Black a pawn up with a comfortable game.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Rasa-Studier Gambit
The Rasa-Studier Gambit diverges from the usual Blackmar-Diemer treatment at move four. After 1. d4 d5 2. e4 dxe4 3. Nc3 Nf6, White does not play the standard 4. f3 and instead develops with 4. Be3, which protects d4 and leaves the timing of f3 open. White remains a pawn down while Black's extra pawn stays on e4. Because this order delays the attack on that pawn, Black has time to finish development calmly or to keep the pawn with ordinary moves. The bishop on e3 also exerts less direct pressure than 4. Bg5 would.
Three replies account for most games. 4...e6 is the most frequent, building a solid French-style setup. 4...Bf5 is close behind; it protects e4 and is the engine's first choice. 4...Nc6 adds pressure on d4. The engine also considers 4...c6. Its assessment gives Black a slight edge. In online games the results are nearly even, with Black scoring marginally better overall and clearly better after 4...e6 and 4...Nc6. The line is an uncommon sideline within an opening that is itself mostly played at club level.
