Train it in TheoriaAbout the Herzog Defense
The Herzog Defense arises in the Panov-Botvinnik Attack when White, after 6...dxc4, does not take back the pawn and instead plays 7. d5, gaining time against the c6-knight. Black replies 7...Na5, sending the knight to the rim where it guards the extra c4-pawn. White plays a pawn down with an isolated, advanced d-pawn. The game turns on whether White's piece activity outweighs the pawn before Black can secure c4 and bring the a5-knight back into play.
