The Perlis Line is a branch of the 6. c3 system against the Tartakower Variation. After 6...Bd6 7. Bd3 O-O, White lines up queen and bishop on the b1–h7 diagonal with 8. Qc2. Black replies 8...h6, which covers g5 against a knight or bishop and gives the castled king air. With Black's pieces on their usual squares, the game turns on White's healthier queenside majority against Black's activity along the open e-file.
