About the Hungarian Gambit

The Hungarian Gambit arises when Black meets the Catalan move 3. g3 with 3...e5, moving the e-pawn a second time to offer it immediately. The pawn stands en prise to White's d4-pawn. Instead of building the slower ...d5 structures of the main lines, Black gives up material to contest the center straight away and to gain development time. It is an uncommon choice and is seldom seen in serious play.
