The Siroccopteryx Variation is the branch of the Colle System in which Black exchanges on d4 before giving the queen check: 4...cxd4 5. Nxd4 Qa5+. The Pterodactyl Variation checks at once with 4...Qa5+. Here the trade first half-opens the c-file and draws White's knight to d4, onto the g7 bishop's diagonal, as the check arrives. With the queenside still undeveloped, White must use the next move to meet the check. The line is uncommon and its theory is thin.
