Dutch Defense line in which Black answers White's fianchetto setup with 6...Ne4, posting the knight centrally while leaving the d-pawn uncommitted.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Alekhine Variation
The Alekhine Variation arises from the Dutch Defense after 2. c4 Nf6 3. g3 e6 4. Bg2 Be7 5. Nf3 O-O 6. O-O, when Black plays 6...Ne4 instead of committing the d-pawn. The knight occupies the central square that 1...f5 was meant to control. Black keeps both ...d6 and ...d5 in reserve, so the game can still head toward Classical or Stonewall structures depending on how White responds.
