About the Hevendehl Gambit

The Hevendehl Gambit answers the Krejcik Gambit, 2. g4, with the counter-gambit 2...e5. Black neither takes on g4 nor defends f5 with 2...d5, which would let the c8-bishop recapture on f5. Instead Black strikes at d4 and leaves both the f- and e-pawns en prise. The move is generally regarded as dubious, an unexpected reply to a gambit that is itself a rarity.
