A rare Dutch Defense gambit in which White strikes with 3. e4 against ...d5, offering a pawn for open lines and attacking chances.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Kingfisher Gambit
The Kingfisher Gambit arises when White answers the Raphael Variation's 2...d5 with 3. e4, giving up the e-pawn to open the position against Black's weakened kingside. Black can capture with either pawn. 3...fxe4 is the most frequent reply, while 3...dxe4 transposes to the Netherlands Variation of the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit. Both captures lead to play full of traps for Black, though the engine judges the position roughly balanced. The gambit is seldom seen.
