A rare Leningrad Dutch setup in which Black combines ...c6 and a kingside fianchetto with 5...Nh6, developing the king's knight to h6 instead of f6.

The Basman System is an offbeat form of the Leningrad Dutch. Black answers 2. g3 with 2...c6, fianchettoes the king's bishop and then plays 5...Nh6 instead of the usual ...Nf6. On h6 the knight leaves the long diagonal clear for the g7 bishop and can later reroute to f7. The early ...c6 keeps a later ...d5 available. The resulting positions are less charted than standard Leningrad theory.
