The Anti-Modern is the form of the Manhattan Gambit that arises after 1. d4 f5 2. Qd3 d6 3. g4. White's queen on d3, the Alapin Variation, attacks f5. The reply 2...d6 opens the c8–h3 diagonal so the bishop guards the pawn. White then hits f5 again with 3. g4, offering the g-pawn to open lines against the loosened black king. The line is rare and tricky, and it serves as a surprise weapon rather than established theory.
