A Staunton Gambit line in the Dutch Defense where White meets 4...g6 with 5. h4, attacking the kingside with the h-pawn instead of recovering the pawn.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Alekhine Variation
The Alekhine Variation arises when White answers 4...g6 with 5. h4 rather than the Lasker Variation's 5. f3. Instead of reopening the f-file to win back the e4-pawn, White keeps the gambit and advances the h-pawn toward h5, aiming to open the h-file against the kingside that Black has weakened with ...g6. Black is still a pawn up with e4 in hand, and the play tends to be sharp and tactical.
