Train it in TheoriaAbout the American Attack
The American Attack is a branch of the Staunton Gambit in which White, after 1. d4 f5 2. e4 fxe4, attacks the extra pawn with 3. Nd2 instead of the usual 3. Nc3. The knight still hits e4 and keeps the c-pawn free, but it shuts in the c1-bishop. Black, a pawn up and to move, must choose whether to hold the e4-pawn or return it. The line is seen far less often than 3. Nc3.
