Anglo-Grünfeld line in which Black meets White's fianchetto with 6...e5, claiming central space in a reversed Sicilian-type structure.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Korchnoi Variation
The Korchnoi Variation arises after 3. cxd5 Nxd5 4. Nf3 g6 5. g3 Bg7 6. Bg2 e5. With both kingside bishops fianchettoed, Black places a pawn on e5 rather than relying only on piece pressure against the center. The result resembles a Sicilian with colors reversed. White aims the g2-bishop and the half-open c-file at the d5-knight and Black's queenside, while Black relies on central space and active piece play.
