About the Romanishin Variation

The Romanishin Variation arises after 1. c4 e6 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. g3 a6. It is reached through an early ...e6 rather than the direct 1...Nf6. Black delays the central commitment of ...d5 and spends a tempo on the queenside. The move prepares ...b5, which can challenge the c4-pawn or support a pawn later won with ...dxc4 against the fianchettoed bishop. The resulting play is flexible and maneuvering, with few forcing lines.
