A rare King's English gambit in which Black pushes 3...e4 and, after 4. Ng5, leaves the e4-pawn en prise with 4...Ng4 for counterplay.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Erbenheimer Gambit
The Erbenheimer Gambit departs from the usual 3...Nc6 defense of the e5-pawn in the King's English. Black instead advances 3...e4, and after 4. Ng5 answers with 4...Ng4, which mirrors White's knight sortie instead of defending the pawn. The e4-pawn is left for White's knights to take. Black's knight eyes f2, and the position becomes an unbalanced, tactical fight far from the quiet Four Knights structures.
