About the Troger Defense

The Troger Defense arises from the Reversed Closed Sicilian when, after 3. g3 d6 4. Bg2, Black develops the light-squared bishop with 4...Be6 before deciding where the king's knight and f-pawn belong. The bishop bears on the c4-pawn and leaves White's fianchettoed bishop facing a solid d6-e5 chain. 5. d3 is the usual reply, with 5. b3 and 5. e3 also common; White scores well, and the engine gives White a slight edge.
