About the Napolitano Gambit

The Napolitano Gambit arises after 1. c4 c5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. b4, a flank thrust in the spirit of the Wing Gambit. White offers the b-pawn to deflect Black's c-pawn from its watch over d4. If Black captures, White gains a free hand in the center with d4 and an open diagonal for a bishop on b2, in return for the pawn. It is a rarely seen sideline, filed under ECO A30.
