A Double Spanish line of the Four Knights in which Black meets 6. d3 with ...Qe7 and, after White's Ne2, breaks symmetry with an early ...d5.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Alatortsev Variation
The Alatortsev Variation is a branch of the Double Spanish, 4...Bb4, in which Black answers 6. d3 with 6...Qe7 instead of the symmetrical 6...d6. The queen guards e5. When White reroutes the c3 knight with 7. Ne2, sidestepping the pin but giving up control of d5, Black strikes at once with 7...d5. Black's pawns on d5 and e5 face White's e4 and d3, and the position loses its symmetry.
