About the Svenonius Variation

The Svenonius Variation is a branch of the Double Spanish. Black gives up the dark-squared bishop with 6...Bxc3 7. bxc3 and then challenges the center immediately with 7...d5, rather than playing the slower 7...d6 of the Janowski Variation. White keeps the bishop pair but is left with doubled c-pawns and an isolated a-pawn. The half-open b-file is available to White's rooks, while Black's d5 pawn contests e4 directly.
