About the Blake Variation

The Blake Variation departs from the Metger Unpin with 7...Ne7. The bishop stays on b4, and the c6 knight is rerouted, which prompts 8. Nh4 to watch g6 and f5. Black then breaks the symmetry with 8...c6 and 9...d5, gaining time against the bishop after 9. Bc4. With 10...Qd6 the queen steps out of the Bg5 pin while guarding e5. Black ends up with a broad pawn center on d5 and e5 against White's e4 and d3.
