A Symmetrical Four Knights line in which Black answers 7. Bg5 with 7...Be6, developing the bishop rather than unpinning at once with the Metger plan.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Tarrasch Variation
In the Tarrasch Variation, Black meets the pin 7. Bg5 with 7...Be6, developing the queen's bishop in place of the Metger Unpin's 7...Bxc3 and ...Qe7. The copycat 7...Bg4 fails tactically, so Black brings the bishop to e6 instead, where it covers d5 and does not lose a piece. The f6 knight stays pinned, which leaves White to decide whether to capture on f6 and change Black's kingside pawn structure. The center remains closed and the play slow.
