A rare French Advance gambit in which White meets 3...c5 with 4. b4, offering a pawn to divert Black's c-pawn; engines clearly favor Black.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Frenkel Gambit
The Frenkel Gambit is an uncommon way to meet the standard 3...c5. White plays 4. b4, offering the b-pawn to divert Black's c-pawn from its pressure on d4. The most frequent reply, 4...cxd4, ignores the offer and strikes at the center, and Black scores well after it. Accepting with 4...cxb4 has turned out better for White in online games, and 4...Nc6 is a further option. The engine assesses the position as clearly better for Black.
