The Nimzowitsch Gambit arises when White, having chosen the Nimzowitsch Attack with 4. Qg4, meets 4...cxd4 with 5. Nf3 instead of recapturing, abandoning the d-pawn in return for kingside initiative. The queen on g4 eyes g7 while the knight supports e5. Black almost always replies 5...Nc6, developing and guarding the extra pawn on d4. The engine rates Black as clearly better, yet White scores well in online games.
