About the Stahlberg Variation

The Stahlberg Variation is a branch of the 7. f4 line of the Classical French. Instead of aiming the bishop at h7 with 9. Bd3, White plays 9. Qd2 and castles long. After 9...Nc6 10. O-O-O, Black replies 10...c4. This gives up the pressure on d4 but fixes the pawn chain and gains queenside space directly in front of White's king. With the kings on opposite wings, the play usually turns into a race of pawn storms.
