A dubious gambit in the French Rubinstein, 4...e5, where Black gives up the e-pawn for quick activity and White usually keeps a clear edge.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Ellis Gambit
The Ellis Gambit is the reply 4...e5 in the Rubinstein Variation. Black offers the e-pawn to open the c8-bishop's diagonal and challenge d4 at once. Moving the same pawn twice while behind in development is regarded as dubious, and the engine gives White a clear advantage. White should avoid 5. dxe5 Qxd1+ 6. Kxd1, which leads to an even position. 5. Nf3 is the most popular reply, and 5. d5 scores best for White.
