The Double Grob, 1. g4 g5, is Black's symmetrical reply to the Grob, mirroring its kingside weakening; a rare, eccentric line with roughly balanced play.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Double Grob
The Double Grob, also called the Symmetrical Variation, answers 1. g4 by copying it with 1...g5. Black forgoes the chance to exploit White's loosened kingside and accepts the same drawbacks, above all an unsafe short castle. The engine rates the position as roughly balanced. White most often continues 2. Bg2, which scores well in practice, while 2. h4 strikes at the g5-pawn at once. The best-known branch is the Coca-Cola Gambit, 2. f4.
