A Grünfeld Exchange Variation sideline in the Classical 7. Bc4 and 8. Ne2 setup, where Black plays 8...Qd7 instead of an immediate strike with ...c5.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Larsen Variation
The Larsen Variation branches off the Classical line of the Exchange Variation. After 7. Bc4 O-O 8. Ne2, Black does not challenge d4 at once with ...c5 and plays 8...Qd7 instead. The queen leaves d8 for the half-open d-file, facing White's d4-e4 center. White keeps the broad center but has an isolated a-pawn after bxc3, and Black can also use the half-open b-file.
