About the Flohr Defense

The Flohr Defense is a restrained line filed under ECO D94, the code of the Grünfeld's Quiet System with e3, though here it arises from a Slav move order with 4. e3 g6. Black keeps d5 supported by ...c6 rather than allowing a central exchange, fianchettoes and castles, then answers 6. Bd3 with 7...Bf5. This develops the light-squared bishop outside the pawn chain and offers to trade it for White's d3-bishop. The play is slow and positional.
