Grünfeld Defense line in the Russian Variation where Black answers White's broad center with 7...b6, preparing a queenside fianchetto against e4.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Levenfish Variation
The Levenfish Variation is the branch of the Russian Variation with 7...b6. Instead of 7...a6, 7...Bg4 or 7...Na6, Black prepares ...Bb7, placing a second bishop on a long diagonal to bear down on the e4-pawn. The g7-bishop already targets d4, so the two fianchettoed bishops work together against the pawn duo White set up with 7. e4. Black aims to undermine that center from a distance while the white queen on c4 stays exposed to harassment.
