The Wiedenhagen-Beta Gambit arises when Black meets 1. g3 d5 2. Nf3 with 2...g5, a pawn thrust that leaves the g-pawn en prise to the knight on f3. Black is offering it in exchange for open lines on the kingside and quick piece activity. The position can also come from 1. Nf3 d5 2. g3, the usual route into a King's Indian Attack setup. It is a rare, unorthodox sideline classified under ECO A07.
