About the Leko Gambit

The Leko Gambit answers 3. f3 with 3...e5. Black offers the e-pawn to the d4-pawn instead of transposing to a Sämisch King's Indian or a Benoni. The idea is to exploit the cost of White's early f3: the move develops nothing and loosens the kingside. If White accepts the pawn, Black looks to use quicker development against that loosened position. The aim is to strike before White can complete e4 and settle into a broad center.
