Train it in TheoriaAbout the Basman-Williams Attack
The Basman-Williams Attack meets the fianchetto with 3. h4, gaining kingside space while holding back Nc3. With no knight on c3, a Grünfeld-style ...d5 allows cxd5 and e4 without the relieving ...Nxc3, and 3...d5 scores poorly for Black. The threat of h5 also ties Black's knight to f6. Michael Basman introduced it in 1980 and Simon Williams later took it up. 3...Bg7 is the usual reply.
