Budapest Gambit sideline in which Black answers 4. e4 with 4...d6, offering more material for rapid development; theory finds it unsound for Black.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Tartakower Defense
The Tartakower Defense, 4...d6, declines to recover the e5-pawn with 4...Nxe5 and instead gambits further to open lines for the pieces. After 5. exd6, the most common reply, 5...Bxd6 6. Be2 f5 7. exf5 Qe7 is Black's attempt at initiative, but 8. c5 Bxc5 9. Qa4+ Nc6 10. Qxg4 wins a piece. Tartakower and Euwe once judged Black's compensation adequate; later analysis refuted that. Engines favor White, yet Black scores well on Lichess.
