The Gedult Attack is a rare Indian Defense sideline in which White lunges with 3. g4 on the kingside, a loosening try that engines favor for Black.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Gedult Attack
The Gedult Attack follows the Paleface move 2. f3 with 3. g4, after 2...d5 has already stopped the intended e4. The pawn threatens g5 to drive the knight from f6. It also loosens White's kingside further and does nothing for development, and engines give Black a clear advantage. The line is rarely played. 3...Nc6 is the most common reply. 3...h6 prevents g5 and has scored best for Black, while engines also favor the central strike 3...c5.
