A rare, dubious gambit in which Black answers 2. Nd2 with 2...e5, offering the e-pawn in search of tactical tricks against an unprepared opponent.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Lazard Gambit
The Lazard Gambit answers White's unusual 2. Nd2 with 2...e5, offering the e-pawn in a manner reminiscent of the Englund Gambit. Black is hoping for tactical chances once the pawn is taken, but the sacrifice is regarded as unsound, and engines give White a slight edge. The usual reply, 3. dxe5, accepts the material and attacks the f6-knight with tempo. The gambit seldom appears in serious events, though Black has scored well in the small sample of online games.
