A forcing sideline of the Classical Italian where White meets 4...Qe7 with an early pawn advance to d6, striking at the queen and cramping Black.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Eisinger Variation
The Eisinger Variation is a pointed treatment of the Closed Variation, 4...Qe7. Black answers 5. d4 with 5...Bb6 rather than capturing on d4. White then gains space with 6. d5, which drives the knight back to b8. The further thrust 7. d6 hits the queen on e7 and the c7-pawn, planting a white pawn deep in Black's camp. Material is level, and Black must deal with the intruder before completing development.
