A gambit in the Classical Italian where White plays 6. b4, leaving Black a pawn up in return for rapid development and pressure on the c5-bishop.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Dubov Italian
Instead of recapturing with 6. cxd4, White leaves Black a pawn up and plays 6. b4, gaining time against the c5-bishop and opening the d-file for fast development. Black normally retreats with 6...Bb6 or 6...Be7. Unlike the Evans Gambit, the b-pawn is not offered, so b5 remains a threat to drive the knight to a5 or e7. The line is named after Daniil Dubov, who used it successfully against Sergey Karjakin at the 2020 Russian Championship.
