Train it in TheoriaAbout the Main Line
The main line of the Compromised Defense runs 8...Qf6 9. e5 Qg6 10. Nxc3 Nge7 11. Ba3. White, two pawns down, puts the bishop on the a3–f8 diagonal, where it pressures the knight on e7 and keeps the black king from castling kingside. White's play relies on the half-open b-, c-, d- and e-files and the advanced e5 pawn. Black tries to finish development, giving back material if necessary. The alternative 11. Rd1 is known as the Potter Variation.
