Evans Gambit Declined line in which Black meets 6. Nxe5 with 6...Qg5, a sharp counterattack on the e5-knight and the g2-pawn instead of guarding f7.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Hirschbach Variation
Rather than defend f7 after 6. Nxe5, Black, a pawn down, strikes back with 6...Qg5, hitting both the e5-knight and the g2-pawn. The fork 7. Nxf7 runs into complications after 7...Qxg2, while 7. d4 rescues the knight but leaves g2 unprotected. The recommended reply is 7. Bxf7+, which takes on f7 with check first. The resulting play is short, forcing and tactical.
