A sharp Evans Gambit line in which White, a pawn down, answers ...Na5 with 10. Bg5, hitting the queen instead of saving the c4-bishop.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Göring Attack
The Göring Attack arises from the McDonnell Defense, 5...Bc5, after 6. d4 exd4 7. O-O d6 8. cxd4 Bb6 9. Nc3 Na5. White does not retreat the c4-bishop from the knight. Instead, 10. Bg5 attacks the queen on d8 and gains a tempo. White remains a pawn down but has the classical e4–d4 center, a castled king and half-open files. Black must meet the threat to the queen before taking on c4.
