Train it in TheoriaAbout the Harding Variation
The Harding Variation comes from the McDonnell Defense, 5...Bc5. After 6. d4 exd4 7. cxd4 Bb4+, White answers the check by interposing 8. Bd2. White stays a pawn down but keeps a mobile pawn pair on d4 and e4, with half-open files for the pieces. Black usually replies 8...Bxd2+ and exchanges the bishop. 8...Nf6 and 8...Qe7 are much less common. The engine rates the position as roughly balanced, and White scores somewhat better in practice.
