About the Mortimer-Evans Gambit

The Mortimer-Evans Gambit is a deep line of the McDonnell Defense, 5...Bc5, in which 6. d4 hits the bishop again. After 6...exd4 7. O-O d6 8. cxd4 Bb6 9. Nc3 Bg4 10. Qa4 Bd7 11. Qb3 Na5, White plays 12. Bxf7+ Kf8. The retreat 13. Qc2 then allows 13...Kxf7. Black is left with a sizable material surplus and a king stranded on f7.
