A sharp Giuoco Piano line in which Black meets 10. Qb3+ with 10...d5, keeping extra material while the king stands exposed on f6.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Krause Variation
The Krause Variation arises in the 7. Bd2 line of the Classical Giuoco Piano. Black answers 10. Qb3+ with 10...d5 instead of the quiet 10...Kf8, which leads to a level endgame. After 11. Ne5+ Kf6 12. f3, White is behind in material after the sacrifice on f7. In return, the pawn attacks the centralized knight on e4, and Black's uncastled king stands exposed on f6. The play is forcing, and the isolated d4-pawn matters less than the safety of Black's king.
