About the Loman Defense

The Loman Defense is Black's alternative to the main line 9...Qd5 in the Max Lange Attack. Instead of centralizing the queen, Black plays 9...g6, moving the g-pawn out of reach of fxg7 and leaving White's f6-pawn standing as an advanced wedge. Black stays a pawn up with doubled c-pawns. White has castled and holds the open e-file, and relies on piece pressure against the e6-bishop and the uncastled black king.
